Covered Up

"Covered Up"
Can be seen as a metaphor for the complexity of our inner selves and our outward presentation. The textured surface, covered and concealed by various layers, reflects how we often hide our true thoughts and feelings behind a facade. Like the cool blue and green tones of the artwork, which lend a certain depth but also superficially exude calm and serenity, we wear various masks in our everyday lives. Here and there, something of the underlying layers flashes through. That which we want to show, want to reveal, or cannot do otherwise because pretending is so much more exhausting.
The layers of paint symbolize the various aspects of our personality that we consciously or unconsciously present. "Covered Up" invites us to take a closer look and look beyond the surface to discover the true essence of the artwork—and perhaps our own true self. It encourages us to consider how much of our inner self we reveal and how much we conceal.
